Material Memories
I think in substances and processes. I paint. I paint to capture the moments in which the landscape has left a lasting impression on me. Layering is the key to my process. I paint until the surface of a canvas reminds me of a moment that I have experienced before and then I paint inspired by that remembered place. Because paint has a mystifying way of recording the most anxious or intuitive gesture, my landscapes are made of layers of memory. I paint to remember.
